What makes a man a monster?
A murderer?
A deviant?
A predator?
A maniac?
A psychopath? How does a young boy become any of those things?
How does he become so shut off from emotion that he considers nobody?
How does he lose his innocence?
How does he lose the ability to feel, to love?
How does he become cold and callous?

The Beginning is a novel that takes us into Matt’s life.

Julia MTBWe were introduced to Matt when we read To Murder Matt which we absolutely loved.
But in The Beginning we are taken back to Matt’s childhood and how he was ultimately moulded into the man he became.

Again Viveca Benoir has given us another brilliant read.
It’s dark, confronting, raw and again highly emotional and at times disturbing.
But we simply couldn’t put it down.

Again we cannot understand how this book is to be banned.
The content at times can be distressing and quite disturbing but why the decision was made to ban it stills leaves us dumbfounded.
And why????
There are two reasons for this…

1. Reading both To Murder Matt and
Matt -The Beginning, the author clearly explains that if at any time a reader should feel uncomfortable and unable to continue, simply put it down.
As readers we are not forced to read a novel, it’s a choice.

2. The subject matter in both novels while again at times graphic, disturbing and confronting, for us it is simply no different than picking up an autobiography with the same subject matter.

Again for us as bloggers/readers we just simply don’t understand the bureaucracy behind the decision.

To Viveca Benoir again thank you very much for giving us a heartbreaking read. Full of feeling and written with such depth we could feel the emotions throughout the pages. Congratulations on another amazing novel.

We look forward to reading more of your work and wish you all the very best.

For us a definite 5 star read.

Bloggers Down Under 5 * To Murder Matt Review

Four people.

Ellen.
Dean.
Veronique.
Nico.
Binded together.
They will be forever changed.
They will be forever damaged.

But they have one thing in common.
One goal.
One need.
One desire.

To seek revenge on the one man who has destroyed each and every one of them.

They want to murder Matt.

Matt.
A monster.
A psychopath.
A deranged maniac.
He hurts people for fun.
He seeks enjoyment from it.
He loves the power.
He will never let anyone or anything stand in his way.
He will destroy those emotionally, physically and psychologically that get in his path.
He will take and take until there is nothing left.
He will have it all.

This is their story.

A story about the lengths a man will take to get what he wants.
A story about a monster.
A story about how four people will forever be entwined.
A story about strength.
A story about survival.
A story about hope.
A story about love.

As bloggers/readers every so often we come across a novel that attracts us based purely on the controversy it causes. You see this book is being banned.

We believe as avid readers ourselves that each and every single book written should be given a fair chance. It should be given a chance to be read by fellow readers/book lovers.

To Murder Matt is definitely not for the light-hearted. It’s content is extremely raw, hard, explicit and quite graphic. And to be honest at times quite disturbing. It covers a number of disturbing topics and taboo subjects.

But as a reader we chose to read it, and we absolutely loved it. Yes it was an extremely hard read, but it was written in such detail and depth we simply couldn’t put it down.

To remove a novel we believe is taking the rights away from readers who should be given the choice to read or not to read. We are definitely firm believers that every author should be given a fair go in this industry.

To Murder Matt…..Is a read for everyone…Absolutely not, but let readers be given the choice to pick it up, not just simply remove it from sale.

To Vevica Benoir thank you so very much for giving us such an emotional, hard, raw, gritty and hard read. The subject matter at times we found highly disturbing, but again never once did we feel as though we couldn’t continue on with it.

We absolutely loved, loved it.

For us a definite 5 star read.

MATT MTB 1
Matt the Beginning is the prequel to To Murder Matt by Viveca Benoir. This book takes you through Matt’s troubled start from birth and asks the question does life make you who you are or are those dark urges always inside you from birth?

Matt faces unimaginable challenges throughout his early life and is often let down by those in the position to protect and care for him, this book did make me empathise with Matt at some points, I have read To Murder Matt and so know what he goes onto become and be so this book helped me get inside his mind to see how he became the man in the next book and how he met some of the characters who are also in the next book, but he evolves through this book from making bad choices to delighting in the torment and power he can cause for his own gain… A true Devil in disguise that walks the earth.

Yes Matt has a heart in this book, it’s not fully cold and black yet, he has moments where he cares, feels and thinks of others but then someone lets him down or events don’t work out as planned: this highly intelligent and ambitious young man won’t be let down and revels in his revenge, retaliation and retribution upon those who wrong him: via sex, manipulation or plain old black mail (some methods will leave you feeling uncomfortable so be aware) …He has so many points where you hope that maybe this is the one person who can help, show or save Matt from his chosen path but no, the stage is now set for Matt and this ending leads seamlessly into To Murder Matt.

A twisted tale of epic proportions that makes you question nature versus nurture.

Viveca Benoir is a great storyteller. This book has hard, controversial, difficult story lines woven into an intelligent dark saga, full of earthy Machiavellian plots – all from Matt. Each one a WTF moment. It’s a book that grabs you buy the balls and doesn’t let you go until the last page. Gripping, interesting, and with infuriating characters sometimes. You won’t be able to walk away from this without being changed in some way. It’s like being run over by a bulldozer. You know you have read it. You won’t forget it either. It’s not a book that sits amongst all the other books. It stands alone, daring you to read it. If you get all the way through this book then you should get a survivors badge. “I read To Murder Matt!’

Matt is not a nice guy. He uses everyone that is in his way. Men, women, doesn’t matter who. If he thinks he can use you he will. Women are just sex objects there for his pleasure. He enjoys toying with them, using them. It’s all about him. Possessive and jealous about Veronique to the point of obsession. She’s his property. He owns her, every bit of her. He owns every woman he meets, until he discards them. Throws them away without a second glance, like used condoms.

Come and get me...

Come and get me…

Morals? He hasn’t even heard of them. He will have sex wherever he can get it, with whomever he is closest to. One scene springs to mind. Hospital bed, nurse, sick wife. A class(less) act. Unforgettable. He’s an alley cat. A player. You might say a typical misogynistic guy. A con man. Always thinking about what’s in it for him. He shows no feelings, has no remorse. A socio /psychopath of the extreme.

Matt is basically a devil going through the lives of those around him. He deserves to be a target.

Well written. Not for the light readers or those looking for a soppy happy night time read. You will feel as violated as his victims. This is a roller coaster of twisted darkness of humungous proportions. Enough said.
